A Two-Fingered Salute from Ruskin

Comrades, I was in a healthy discussion with one of the younger generation of students at Ruskin last week and discussing the origins of our great institution.

To give the lad some credit, although he hadn't read any of the history of the College , he understood that Ruskin emerged from a demand for independent working class education.

And, when discussing the citing of Ruskin in Oxford, the young man was quick to add that could take the historical perspective of Ruskin's location as a metaphorical two fingers to the University.

To quote the youngster, 'you educate your people, and we can and will educate ours'.

Fine words!
